Over the next few weeks, I'm going to be writing a lot about drink books. I'm kicking things off with a look at two of my all time favourites by Kermit Lynch and Patrick Matthews.
A bit more trade-focussed but Andrew Barr has also sadly disappeared from wine writing despite some excellent books like Wine Snobbery and Drink: A Social History.
Lovely article. I have tracked down and bought both books on eBay. The Roahl Dahl short story “Taste” is still the best story about wine. His “The Butler Did It” is also excellent.

Great books especially Drink, so much food for thought in there. Or drink for thought. I wonder what he’s up to now.

I am pleased. Let me know how you get on. And yes love 'Taste' but i don't recall the other. Will have to track it down.

Separately, I think Richard Olney's books on wine are great, but the best is his Ten Vineyard Lunches which creates a menu for each region of France.
Likewise, James Seeley's book on the Loire from the 80s is still very much worth a read.
Looking forward to future posts.
