" I left feeling a bit like a duck, stuffed and a bit depressed." I prefer Peking Duck at Bamboo House or The Flower Drum here in Melbourne and a good pinot noir.
Very much agree with your Oumisyats Lebanese Assyrtiko which I came across in one of my favourite Liverpool restaurants - Maray in Albert Dock and also Bold Street- which I highly recommend.Selling for a very reasonable ( restaurant price) of £26 a bottle.
It really added to the meal and left me smiling that I had not paid ridiculous London prices for a very good wine.
Great to hear! There's a theory which I think has very little basis in fact that assyritiko is actually native to Lebanon and was brought to Santorini by the Phoenicians.
Passito di Pantelleria are one of life's lesser known pleasures. As a side note: Apollo was seduced by the goddess Tanit, who succeeded by serving him Muscat wine from the island. The capers from the island are also truly sensational. Loved the piece on Sicilian wines inspired by The Leopard. Which you also cover memorably in your beguiling Podcast with Tom P-B on Marsala. Brava Henry.
