It's (nearly) three years since Anthony Barton of Château Langoa-Barton in Bordeaux died on 19 January 2022 so I'm posting something I wrote at the time.
I only met him once which was at a Ducru tasting I was working at in London. He was exactly as you describe. As a very senior figure in the wine world ,you could expect that he would be aloof but nothing could be further from the truth. I remember that he was genuine and spent time to ask me about in my plans for a career in wine. RIP Anthony Barton. A decent man.
What a wonderful story. I never had the chance to meet Anthony but I feel like I knew him from all of the wonderful stories I’ve heard about his warm personality and wit, which you describe so nicely. It’s always a pleasure to read your work.
A wonderful and very personal tribute . Just opened 2016 Mauvesin Barton while waiting for the Langoa and Leoville 2016’s to mature
Mauvesin is such a bargain. Had the 2018 recently which was on great form.

That's just it. No airs or graces.
Thank you, this is a beautiful tribute to a man of whom I had not heard. I look forward to trying these wines.
