I was in constant danger of spitting out my coffee with guffaws, and then this line absolutely gobsmacked me: “This means there’s less of a chance of being charmed into ordering something you won’t like by the waiter with the nose ring.”

Thanks very much for the mention, much appreciated. I've interviewed Jackson a couple of times and really liked him but to my shame have never eaten his food. I must rectify that and soon.

There are very few wines that cannot be improved by a bit of sulphur and filtering.

I always judge a winery by its cheapest wine and I do the same for a restaurant wine list. How good is its house wine and what are they charging?

If it had been me paying it would have been straight for the house wine and I agree, a good restaurant will always have a decent, well-priced house wine.

Loved GQS and remember it with fondness each time I walk past its former home. Perfect place to drop into for an impromptu glass and plate. Pint of fresh beer from the keg sitting on the bar? Yes, please. Didn't go as far as having my wedding reception there but it was the venue for a very entertaining first (and last!) date.

Haven't made it to Orasay but Jackson Boxer is indeed a super-nice and v talented fellow.
